Repairs to cast iron gate finial and redecoration at The British Museum
A cast iron finial had become detached from the gate post and on impact had broken into 2 pieces. Both pieces were retrieved and stored safely onsite.
The castings were transported to our workshop and a repair methodology was agreed to restore and reattach the finial
The finial had conveniently fractured at a location which permitted a seamless repair by way of implementing an invisible mechanical repair methodology
The paint system and related surface preparation methodologies were defined based on required through-life technical performances, case specific project delivery parameters and environmental impact assessments.
