Fakenham Gas Works Condition survey and recommendations for repair

25 August 2021

The Fakenham Museum of Gas and Local History is the only surviving town gasworks in England and Wales and retains all the original equipment used for the manufacture of gas from coal including the retorts, condenser, purifiers, meter and gasholder.

Ian Clark Restoration was commissioned to undertake a comprehensive condition survey of the gas production, treatment and storage equipment and provide recommendations for repair as an integral element of the phase 2 conservation work project.

The gasworks, which ceased production in 1965, is a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
