Skew Bridge, Bath
Towpath Cast Iron Railings and Ballustrade, Bath
The purpose of this report was to carry out a site inspection of a section of cast iron railings to help further inform a conservation strategy as an integral part of a prospective building development and regeneration programme for the City of Bath.
The report was based on a project requirement for the railings to be assessed and restored to re-establish their original historical architectural form and recover their structural integral strength.
It was a prerequisite that this project had to be able to demonstrate and promote the use of proven practical conservation and restoration techniques and positively disseminate building conservation best practice.
Both date and manufacture of these castings are unknown but they may have been installed to coincide with the opening of the replacement wrought iron Skew Bridge in 1878.
